Website and Research: Destructoid and GamesRadar+
As i am creating my own website i will study two websites and compare and contrast these. This research and study will help me in understanding how to manage my own website and make it reach that academic level that is required. Thus, i will consider the overall colors, backgrounds, design, navigation, typography, user-friendliness and mobile view.
Homepage as we can see is quite good, has a lot of options in the navigation bar containing almost all the options related to gaming. Search button is visible and easy to access. As destructoid is a huge organization with large number of gaming experts, therefore reviews of different games can be found written by the pro writers of those specific games. They are using dark theme with contrast of black and white. Name of game and writer is mentioned in clear black and white font and sometimes varying with background picture
Same is the case with this as well when it comes to mobile. Easy and user friendly, everything is easily accessible.
I will be looking at Destructoid and GamesRadar+ as the content of these two artists is almost similar to mine. I will be looking at them in more depth as part of my research.
I will begin by looking at Destructoid's website. Below you can view the homepage:
The coolest part for me was to show the rating of the reviews as well, As you can see in the picture below:
So before watching the review of any game you can simply check what audience thinks about it. This will help new people to know about the authenticity of the review and whether they should trust the words of the writer or not according to the positive and negative rating.
Then at last I checked it on mobile, it is still efficient and smooth for mobile users as well. Rating of the reviews from the home page was missing though.
I then started looking at GamesRadar+. The pic of homepage is given below:
Homepage is almost the same as of destructroid in my opinion, this one just have a lil more options in navigation bar. The link to their social media accounts is also on the top.
They are using light theme with simple contrast of black and white for the headings as well,
So, if i compare them, both have same qualities when it comes to user friendliness, accessibility of content, color contrast and efficiency for mobile users,Whereas few positive points which in my opinion destructroid have and gamesradar dont is lacking contact of social media links which for Radar isn't on the top which makes it quite difficult to find. Then destructroid have ratings from audience for their reviews as well. The dark theme and font size a little larger in size makes it quite easy to read even from a distance.
For me , it was quite helpful experience viewing them, being a beginner myself got to know a lot about the font size, white spacing and how to manage gallery as well. I might be using dark theme and the rating thingy being inspired by Destructoid as it looks quite cool and overwhelming for the new audience as per my perspective.
Great analysis on both websites. It's good too that you can take reference from a game review website and use it on your portfolio website. That said, I think you should look at least one portfolio website of say, a game reviewer if you can. That way, you also get to learn about portfolio websites exclusively and implement it in yours.
